Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How often do I need an eye exam if I wear glasses?
A: Routine eye exams are recommended every 1-2 years unless otherwise directed by your eye doctor. Military eyeglasses and inserts can be ordered up to 2 years off a valid prescription.
Q: Do I need a referral?
A: No, you do not need a referral to be seen at Optometry. Call Central Appointment line 1-706-787-7300.
Q: Can I get contact lenses?
A: Contact lenses are not a TRICARE covered benefit. Our contact lens policy is a courtesy program to existing contact lens patients who need a prescription renewal and is subject to readiness requirements and availability. If you are an existing contact lens wearer, and interested in a prescription renewal, please bring the contact lens information (boxes, blister packs, expired prescription) and a pair of your pre-existing contact lenses with you (if available) to your exam. No initial fitting services available for first time contact lens patients. The military does not issue non-mission related contact lenses (patients must buy them out of pocket).
Q: Where do I update my MEDPROS?
A: MEDPROS vision screening is a unit function- annual vision screening requirement for MEDPROS can be done at your unit or at the DDEAMC monthly readiness day (second Thursday of the month at SRP site-NRP 322). If your unit does not have vision screeners, your command team can contact the optometry service at Connelly clinic for the training.
