How to Report Work-Related Injuries
Work-Related Injuries
Here are the proper steps for managing a work-related injury:
- Seek medical treatment either at DDEAMC ER (if any radiographs, stitches, fluids or labs are needed), the OH clinic during duty hours for simple issues, or at the ER/clinic of your choice.
- Employees who are not TRICARE beneficiaries may be seen in the DDEAMC ER for an acute injury with at no charge.
- Your doctor or another urgent care or ER must see you for the injury if you desire--even if the injury was on-duty--because it is not a Workers’ Compensation case until it has been filed and approved by the Department of Labor. The payor is your primary insurance.
- Ensure you obtain copies of all those records.
- Your supervisor must complete the appropriate safety forms for your agency.
- Come to see the Occupational Medicine clinic for follow up and counseling on the Workers’ Compensation program.
- File a Workers’ Compensation application within thirty days of the injury, if needed.
