Community Health Nursing

Army Community Health Nursing is a service to all military health care beneficiaries with a primary objective of promoting combat readiness. This objective is achieved through developing and maintaining positive attitudes toward health, preventing illness and disability, and regaining or maintaining maximum health. This service is provided by teaching consultative counseling, and nursing services to soldiers, families and groups in units, homes, hospital wards, clinics and worksite.

  • Communicable Disease - Education and Counseling in Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, HIV/AIDS or others of public health significance.
  • Family Health - Education and Counseling in Home Safety, Care of the Newborn, Well Child Guidance, Expectant Parent, Parenting and Care of the Family Member with Special Needs.
  • Soldier Readiness - Consultation and Training in Field Hygiene in the Field, Food Sanitation*, and Field Sanitation*; deployment; re-deployment services and other force health protection services as indicated. (*Coordinated with Environmental Health Section).
  • Chronic Disease Management In the Home - Education and Coordination in Taking Care of Yourself when you have chronic illnesses such as Diabetes, Hypertension, or Asthma.
  • Health Information and Referral - General information to the public on good health practices, available health services and referral.
  • Serve as Health Consultants to Child and Youth Services (CYS) facilities including Family Child Care (FCC) providers on the installation, providing classes to child care providers on Medication Administration, Common Childhood Communicable Diseases. Provide health and sanitation inspections of facilities, staff training and serve as health consultant on the Special Needs Resource Team.

From Hospital: Right on Chamberlain Avenue. Left on Kilbourne Street (between golf course and Darling Hall) past the fire station. Turn left on 38th Street, to first building on the corner of 38th and 7th Avenue.
